Major works have begun on the $43.5 million expansion of the Tea Tree Plaza Park ‘n’ Ride, which will increase capacity to about 1200 car parks.

Construction work on creating the superstructure commenced this week, including pouring concrete for the supporting columns.

The expansion is part of the Malinauskas Labor Government’s investment in public transport infrastructure in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburbs.

When complete, the new Park ‘n’ Ride will increase the number of parking spaces in the Tea Tree Plaza interchange precinct by 500, from the current 700 to a total of approximately 1200.

The additional spaces will make public transport an even more attractive option for north-eastern suburbs commuters, making access to Adelaide’s public transport network easier and more convenient.

The new multi-storey car park is being built adjacent the existing Park ‘n’ Ride, and will consist of a ground floor and three upper levels. It will be accessed via a ramp connecting it to the existing Park ‘n’ Ride, providing commuters with a single entry and exit point.

Construction firm Built has been awarded the contract to design and build the Park ‘n’ Ride project, which is supporting approximately 215 full-time equivalent jobs per year during construction and is due for completion in mid-2024.

Buses - especially the O-Bahn – will be a much more attractive option for north eastern suburbs commuters with the expansion of this much-used Park ‘n’ Ride.

We want to get more people onto public transport. Labor believes in public transport, and this project, which will encourage more commuters onto buses, is a worthy investment.

I’m incredibly pleased to see that major works have commenced at our local Park ‘n’ Ride.

This a project I fought hard for as a University student under the Weatherill Government, and after years of Liberal delays, we are getting on with the job.

The extra 500 spaces will go a long way towards taking pressure off surrounding streets, and encouraging more local residents to take the O-Bahn into work.

I fought for - and won - our commitment to build the Tea Tree Plaza Park ‘n’ Ride, back in 2017 when the former Liberal Government tore up the contract.

That’s because I know how extremely important this is to the north-east community.

I am incredibly proud to see the Malinauskas Labor Government delivering on its commitment to the South Australian public, within its first year of coming into Government.

We want to make commuting in the north-east as convenient as possible and this expansion will make the O-Bahn an even more attractive option for residents.

The additional parks will not only allow for more commuters to park their car safely, it will also reduce parking pressures in neighbouring streets.

Extra parking spaces at the Tea Tree Plaza Park ‘n’ Ride is great news for Torrens residents.

With commuters being able to park closer to home, it will mean less congestion in streets around the Klemzig Interchange – this is a win for commuters and residents.
