Release date: 12/06/22

The State Government is offering free travel on the newly-electrified Gawler rail line all day tomorrow (Sunday 12 June), as part of celebrations for the return of passenger services on the line.

The newly electrified line between Adelaide and Gawler will provide a cleaner, greener, quieter and faster service for the thousands of northern suburbs commuters expected to use the line every day.

On Sunday, passengers will be able to hop on a train at no cost from any station along the line to celebrate the reopening of the line.

There will also be activities and giveaways at Gawler Railway Station, and nearby Gawler Lions Markets, from 9am to 11am tomorrow.

Tuesday onwards will see a series of activities and giveaways at various stations along the line, to thank the community and businesses for their patience while the project was completed.

Passenger services will resume on the Gawler rail line from 6.25am on Sunday, 12 June 2022. Full timetable information is available at www.adelaidemetro.com.au.

The Gawler Rail Electrification Project supported, on average, approximately 675 full-time equivalent jobs per year over the life of the project.

After a year and a half of not having a train service, we want people to rediscover the amenity and convenience of electric rail to and from the Northern Suburbs.

That is why tickets will be free for the Gawler Line tomorrow.

This is a great opportunity for previous users of the Gawler line - and those new to train travel - to come and try the new electrified line.

We are excited to finally open this line for the people of the northern suburbs and we want to ensure we get as many people as possible back to catching the train.
