A globally recognised hydrogen developer will head the construction of a multi-billion-dollar, world-leading hydrogen precinct at Cape Hardy.
Iron Road Ltd has chosen lead developer, Amp Energy, to deliver its Cape Hardy green hydrogen project, which is set to inject billions of dollars’ worth of investment outcomes into South Australia and create thousands of jobs.
The developer was chosen following a three-month competitive offer-to-bid process.
The green industrial hub, located on the Eyre Peninsula, will feature a 5GW scale green hydrogen production facility in an ideal strategic location to develop the multi-purpose, multi-user deep-sea port for hydrogen operations, along with mineral and grain exports.
Amp Energy intends to develop and build up to 5GW of electrolyser capacity over the next decade in the port precinct, delivering more than five million tonnes of green ammonia each year and fuelling South Australia’s position as a global leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production.
The planned export facility at Cape Hardy is expected to create nearly 5000 jobs during its development peak and more than 1000 positions when fully operational.
The Malinauskas Labor Government has played a critical role to support the project, backed by the Federal Government’s $25 million commitment for the development of the deep-sea port to benefit current and future industries.
State Government agency Invest SA supported Iron Road Ltd and Amp Energy at the Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo in March, with Trade and Investment Minister Nick Champion attending with local companies to showcase South Australia’s green credentials and hydrogen export capabilities.
The leading industry event promoted the significant investment opportunities available in the State including the Cape Hardy hydrogen hub, as well as the Government’s $593 million Hydrogen Jobs Plan – all part of a $20 billion pipeline of renewable energy projects.
