The Marshall Government will cover the cost of the Adelaide Oval Footy Express this season, providing footy clubs and fans financial relief as they grapple with the impacts of COVID19.
Footy fans will enjoy free travel to and from Adelaide Oval for the first game back at Adelaide Oval next week for the match between Adelaide Crows and St Kilda on Monday night, 20 July, and for the rest of the season.
Full bus, train and tram services will be provided even with restricted crowd numbers of up to 25,000 people at Adelaide Oval to increase capacity and assist with physical distancing efforts.
To further ease the pressure on the public transport system and provide more capacity to allow for better physical distancing, the Marshall Government has worked with the Adelaide City Council to provide reduced car parking fees for those attending footy games at Adelaide Oval.
“We know that many people are doing it tough this year and that’s why we will be covering the cost of the Adelaide Oval Footy Express this season to ensure it’s free for footy fans,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.
“We’ve also worked with the Adelaide City Council to reduce parking fees for those attending games at the Oval.
“We know many South Australians are looking forward to being back at Adelaide Oval and we want to help them get to and from the game safely and for free.
“With crowds of up to 25,000 we know that footy at Adelaide Oval will be a spectacle and the atmosphere will be electric.
“We’re also asking footy fans to please be patient as they wait for their transport to and from Adelaide Oval and to be mindful to physically distance as much as possible.”
Every effort will be made to provide additional capacity on bus, train and tram services and customers will need to exercise judgement as to how they travel and act in accordance with health advice; practice sound hygiene measures, cough into tissues or the crook of your arm and use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser and wash your hands.
If you are feeling ill, please avoid travel on public transport at all times.
