Community-based projects to improve South Australians’ wellbeing can now share in $800,000 in grants as part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s wellbeing strategy – Open Your World.

Non-Government Organisations and Local Government are eligible to apply for individual grants of between $10,000 and $100,000 to help improve physical, social and mental wellbeing across the community.

The grants program is part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s ground-breaking new wellbeing strategy, Open Your World, launched to provide further support to South Australians after an unprecedented start to 2020.

Minister for Environment and Water David Speirs, who has overseen the development of the wellbeing strategy, said the Open Your World Wellbeing Fund will be targeted at community-based projects to build wellbeing and resilience.

“South Australians continue to respond to the global coronavirus pandemic as well as dealing with the aftermath of a devastating bushfire season and ongoing drought conditions across much of the state,” said Minister Speirs.

These unprecedented events are having a significant impact on people’s mental health and wellbeing and we are committed to doing everything we can to help support South Australians during this time.

“The Open Your World Wellbeing Fund will provide once-off grants of up to $100,000 to support community-based projects that build resilience and wellbeing particularly for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Now, more than ever, we need to protect people’s mental wellbeing and support them to maintain strong social connections. These grants will allow us to work with the community to deliver a more positive future for South Australia.

“I encourage any NGO, local council or community group with a project to improve physical, social and mental wellbeing to apply.

“The Open Your World website is a one-stop shop for how to improve your wellbeing with a range of activities for the whole family to do as well as information about services available. Activities include enjoying nature and the outdoors, staying fit and active, online learning and skill development as well as interactive arts projects and festivals.”

The Open Your World wellbeing strategy has been developed by Wellbeing SA and supported by a taskforce, led by Minister Speirs and including representatives from Wellbeing SA, SA Health, the Department for Environment and Water, the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing and Arts SA.

Applications for the Grants are open until 5:00 pm Friday 17 July 2020. The Grants are administered by Wellbeing SA, and for more information visit the Open Your World website.
