Wild and woolly conditions, including a forecast “Antarctic blast” moving across South Australia has triggered a state-wide Code Blue response for people sleeping rough from tonight.

During a Code Blue activation, Housing SA, together with its non-government partners, makes additional accommodation and support services available for extended hours for our most vulnerable.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said a Code Blue will be activated tonight and Tuesday night.

“Due to forecast excessive wind, rain and possible thunderstorms across the state, together with our homelessness partners, we’ve activated a state-wide Code Blue to ensure extra services are available, including accommodation, for our most vulnerable South Australians,” said Minister Lensink.

“It is thanks to these services that we are able to keep people sheltered and dry during this extreme weather.”

Extra services open for people sleeping rough include:

Monday, June 7:

  • Baptist Care’s Westcare Centre will be open for overnight accommodation from 3pm. The Westcare Centre is located at 11/19 Millers Ct Adelaide.
  • Hutt St Centre will extend their operating hours until 5pm. They are located at 257 Hutt St, Adelaide.
  • Street to Home will be doing additional outreach support.
