South Australian motorists are being reminded to remain vigilant and compare fuel prices this Easter long weekend to help mitigate potential price gouging.

As more South Australians travel on our roads to visit family and go on holidays, motorists have traditionally seen rises in fuel prices. As of Thursday night, the lowest fuel price in Adelaide was around $1.50.

Customers can keep up to date with fuel prices using the various fuel apps sites which can be found on the CBS website.

Motorists can also report petrol stations that fail to match their prices at the bowser with those displayed on the Fuel Watch App, by visiting the website.

In the month of March, CBS received 113 complaints regarding fuel prices, which is the most received in a month since the fuel watch scheme was introduced.

To date five expiation notices have been issued for breaches of the Scheme:

  • Two were issued to fuel retailers who had not registered for the Scheme.
  • Three were issued for failure to update prices within the required timeframe (each of which had received a written warning for the same type of breach on a prior occasion).

CBS proactively monitors petrol stations for compliance with the scheme. 741 inspections have been conducted by CBS officers across the majority of SA, including regional areas.

The State Government’s Fuel Watch program – which received bipartisan support for its introduction – has become very popular and has shown promising signs of reducing the cost of living pressures for South Australians.

However, South Australians need to remain vigilant and shop around, and if the bowser doesn’t match the price on the app – report it.
