Experienced senior public servant Dr Jon Gorvett has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive of the EPA by the Malinauskas government.

The Deputy Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet since July 2021, Dr Gorvett brings a wealth of local and international experience to this the role leading South Australia’s independent environment protection regulator.

Dr Gorvett has worked in several senior roles in the UK including within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

He was Britain’s lead negotiator with the EU on climate change, negotiating policy and legislation between 28 countries and the European Parliament.

He also advised the UK Prime Minister, ministers and ambassadors on strategy pertaining to highly technical negotiations including reforming the EU's Emission Trading System and CO2 emissions regulations for vehicles.

Dr Gorvett is also a former Director at the South Australian Department of Environment and Water (Climate Change).

He also led the intergovernmental relations and emergency management teams responding to the bushfires of 2019–20 and the management of COVID-19.

Dr Gorvett replaces Acting Chief Executive, Keith Baldry, who stepped into the role in the interim after long time agency boss, Tony Circelli, left to head up the newly formed agency Recycling Victoria.


The Malinauskas government thanks Mr Baldry for his leadership over the past eight months.
Dr Gorvett will assume the new role on 1 May 2023
