The Malinauskas Labor Government is on track to the lift the COVID Emergency Management Declaration, after securing the support of the Greens and SA Best.

The crossbenchers will support the passage of the government’s amendments to the Public Health Act through the Legislative Council.

The government’s legislation has been drafted in consultation with the Emergency Management Council, which includes State Co-ordinator Grant Stevens and Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier.

The government will support crossbench proposals for parliamentary oversight and an appeal rights mechanism in limited cases.

The crossbench put forward detailed, fully drafted amendments, which stands in stark contrast to the Liberals who failed to draft their amendments in time. Indeed, the Liberals managed to draft a press release before they drafted their amendments, despite being briefed on the matter more than two weeks ago.

My government wants to work constructively with the Parliament to secure the passage of our legislation. I want to thank the Greens and SA Best for agreeing to support our legislation and for their sensible amendments.
