Release date: 25/05/22

South Australia will have a new Disability Advisory Council reporting directly to the Minister for Human Services. This will ensure a strong voice for people with lived experience of disability to provide input on government strategy, policies and legislation.

The Disability Advisory Council will operate alongside the existing Disability Engagement Group whose members are welcome to apply for a place on the Council.

It will join the new Youth Advisory Council and the new LGBTIQA+ Advisory Council the Minister has also launched recently.

Expressions of interest are now open for membership of the new councils, which will play an important role in advising the Minister on high level strategic issues relevant to our youth, people with disability and members of the LGBTIQA+ community.

The Minister for Human Services has lead responsibility for disability, youth and LGBTIQA+ inclusion within the State Government and advocates for these South Australians at a national level.

The new ministerial Advisory Councils will play an important role in advising me directly on the issues that matter most to our youth, those with a disability and LGBTIQA+ people in South Australia. I strongly encourage people from a wide range of backgrounds to apply and bring their experience to the table.

I’m looking to appoint thought leaders and inspiring advocates who can represent the diverse interests of people living with disability in this state.

We are seeking people who want to help create an inclusive culture where LGBTIQA+ people feel welcome and safe, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or sex characteristics.

Our young people should be engaged in issues that affect them directly and they can use this Council as an opportunity to raise them with me.
