Release date: 30/05/22

Tenders are set to open this week for the Adelaide 500 as momentum builds for the event’s highly anticipated return in December.

The opening of tenders also delivers an opportunity for local firms to secure work, after a near three-year absence of the Supercars race.

It follows the former Marshall Liberal Government’s decision to rapidly sell off some of the event’s infrastructure in a fire sale to try and sabotage the return of the race.

The State Budget will include $18 million in 2022-23 to run the event in December. An additional $3 million has been set aside to buy back infrastructure sold off by the Liberals.

Tenders set to open include:
*    Temporary Grandstands
*    Hospitality Platforms
*    Portable Toilet Hire
*    Pedestrian Overpasses
*    On-Ground Marquees, Fit Out & Furniture
*    Site Fencing
*    Ticketing Services
*    Security Services
*    Greenery & Timber Decking
*    Hospitality Air-Conditioning
*    Hospitality Fridge Hire
*    Temporary Shade Sails
*    Track Resurfacing & Civil Works
*    Cleaning and waste management services
*    Pit Pavilion Air-Conditioning
*    Grounds Maintenance
*    Catering rights & supply

The former Marshall Liberal Government scrapped the event in 2020. In Opposition, Labor pledged to bring the race back if elected.

This year’s Adelaide 500 will be held from December 1-4. Other looming milestones include the announcement of musical acts for the event and the launch of ticket sales.

In 2019 the Adelaide 500 injected $45.9 million into South Australia's economy and supported 435 full-time jobs.

Momentum is building for the return of the Adelaide 500 and the issuing of tenders is yet another tangible sign the race is coming back.

This is also a great opportunity for local businesses to tender for work, which will help support jobs and generate local economic activity.

That’s why this event is so much more than a car race – it’s a generator of jobs and a driver of economic activity.

It’s hard to believe it’s only six months until the great race returns.

We’re working to a tight timeframe and we can’t afford to waste a second, which is why it’s exciting to begin the process of issuing tenders.

This also presents a massive boost to the local events industry, who have been starved of major events over the past couple of years.
