Release date: 13/04/22

Recreational fishers planning to cast a line in South Australia over Easter are being reminded to do the right thing – or risk getting caught.

Over the long weekend, Fisheries Officers will be making sure fishers are obeying all rules and regulations, to ensure stock levels aren’t heavily impacted.

For all species, South Australians need to make sure they are keeping the populations sustainable but it’s even more important with popular species like Blue Swimmer Crabs.

Strict bag, boat and daily limits apply. Recreational fishers can check www.pir.sa.gov.au/fishing-limits for details.

Fishing limit information is also available via the SA Recreational Fishing Guide app or 24-hour Fishwatch hotline on 1800 065 522.

Quotes

Attributable to the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, Clare Scriven

Fishing is a healthy, fun activity for the whole family. It’s great to get out and about and enjoy all our state has to offer, with pristine waterways and beautiful coastlines.

However, fishing limits exist to protect the long-term health of our fish stocks in South Australia. No-one wants to face a fine, so it’s important you follow the rules.

I encourage all fishers to do the right thing - they’ll be save themselves a potentially hefty fine, and do their bit to protect our fish and aquatic resources for generations to come.

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Katrine Hildyard

I encourage everyone to enjoy our beautiful coastline and other waterways and the experiences fishing has to offer.

It’s vital we protect our aquatic resources for the future I wish fishers a really happy Easter and encourage them to check the rules and follow their obligations.
