Western Australians have been fortunate to be led by Mark McGowan.

As Premier of Western Australia these past six years, Mr McGowan has demonstrated strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.

He has always fiercely represented his state’s interests on the national and international stage.

He led his state safely through the pandemic, all the while continuing to develop Western Australia’s enviable economic position.

Mr McGowan has devoted a lifetime to the Labor Party, serving 27 years in the Western Australian Parliament. He served as a minister in the Gallop and Carpenter Governments, and eleven and a half years as party leader.

As a State Labor Leader who steered his party from Opposition to Government, he has been an important source of advice, inspiration, and mentorship to me.

On a personal level, I have enjoyed Mark’s fellowship and friendship.

He has much to be proud of. I wish Mark, Sarah and their children all the best in political retirement, and I look forward to watching Mark’s next endeavour closely.
