Biography

Katrine is the Member for Reynell in Adelaide’s beautiful southern suburbs and is Assistant Minister to the Premier.

After completing her schooling at Plympton High School, Katrine worked as a clerical worker before undertaking a Bachelor of Arts degree at Flinders University.  Whilst studying, she also worked in many other jobs to support herself – in clerical and administration, as a TAFE lecturer and as a cleaner, amongst others.

Katrine has fought to better the lives of South Australians for most of her working life. During her time as SA and NT Secretary of the Australian Services Union, Katrine engaged with employers and represented workers in a range of industries to strive for equity and a fair go in the workplace and for strong and sustainable industries for the future. In particular, Katrine is proud to have collaboratively led ground breaking work to strengthen the community sector and to achieve equal pay for 200,000 community workers around Australia and funding for it.

Katrine is also proud of having been the Chief Executive Officer of Together SA – a community organisation that engages community and all stakeholders to collectively achieve solutions to complex social issues communities wants to resolve.

Growing up in a single parent family in the south western suburbs of Adelaide, Katrine understands the values of being part of a caring community, of giving people a voice and of working with others to make a difference. Katrine recognises the role that community leaders play in sporting clubs, in community groups and other organisations to see everyone do their best.  She is passionate about working alongside community members to achieve fairness and opportunity for everyone and believes that great communities are strong, fair and inclusive ones.

In recognition of her dedication to achieving strong, connected and sustainable communities in South Australia, Katrine received the 2012 Australia Day Award - Women Hold up Half the Sky.  Katrine is also listed on the South Australian Women’s Honour Roll, has been a champion of women’s issues for decades and is a passionate advocate for the prevention and eradication of domestic violence.

Katrine lives in Christies Beach with her husband, Charles, and teenage son and step son, and continues to be an extremely active member of her local community. Amongst her many community roles, she is a patrolling member at the Christies Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, a member of the Morphett Vale and Districts RSL. She is also a Director of the Southern Football League, an Ambassador for Welcome to Australia, the Patron of Surf Lifesaving SA’s ‘Surf Sisters’ and patron of her local Venture Theatre Company.

Katrine is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a former director of both Local Super and Statewide Super and a Fellow of the Governor’s Leadership Foundation.

Katrine is a great lover of sport and participates in various sporting pursuits.  She also enjoys playing and listening to music and seeing live music and theatre when she can.
