Grant funding is available for infrastructure projects that will boost investment in South Australia’s resource recovery and recycling industry.

Local councils and businesses in the waste and resource recovery sector can apply for up to $150,000 toward innovative projects that divert recyclable material from landfill; up to $300,000 will be available for large-scale regional projects.

The funding, offered by Green Industries SA, is part of a three-year $12 million programme aimed at increasing the capacity of recycling systems and reprocessing infrastructure.

The grants will assist companies, local authorities and organisations to install infrastructure and provide innovative approaches to increase the recovery of resources and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill each year.

Background

South Australia leads the nation in its recycling rates and this is underpinned by our significant investment in the recycling and resource recovery industry.

In the most recent round of recycling infrastructure grants, the Government awarded $2.88 million to 19 projects expected to generate 67 jobs.

Applications for infrastructure funding are open until Friday 23 June 2017. The grant guidelines and application form are at www.greenindustries.sa.gov.au

The Government is committed to growing the $1 billion waste and resource recovery sector. These grants are another example of how our waste reforms are helping achieve this.

The previous grants funding round helped create 67 jobs across the State while also improving waste infrastructure. I am hopeful this round will achieve similar outcomes.

I encourage local councils and others in the waste and resource recovery sector to apply and work with the Government to build on South Australia’s leadership in this sector. We already lead the nation with a recycling rate of 80 per cent and improving infrastructure will help divert even more waste from landfill.
